Boreray, Inverness-shire

Historical Description

BORERAY, an island, in the quoad sacra parish of Trumisgarry, island of North Uist, county of Inverness; containing 181 inhabitants. It lies a little south of North Uist, and west of Bernera, in the Sound of Harris; and is about three miles in circumference, and rather fertile, having a fresh-water lake. A considerable quantity of kelp is made, the manufacture forming the chief employment of the population.
