Historical Description

BARACHNIE, a village, in the parish of Old Monkland, forming part of the late quoad sacra parish of Crossbill, Middle ward of the county of Lanark, 3½ miles (E.) from Glasgow; containing 235 inhabitants. This place is situated on the road from Glasgow to Airdrie, a short distance from Bailiestone Toll, and on the borders of Barony parish. In the vicinity are extensive coal-works.
