Studland, Dorset
Historical Description
Studland, a parish in Dorsetshire, in the NE of Purbeck Isle, on Studland Bay and Poole Harbour, 3 miles from Swanage station on the L. & S.W.R. It includes Brownsea Island, and has a post office under Wareham; money order and telegraph office, Swanage. There is also a telegraph office at the coastguard station on the coast. Acreage, 4633; population of the civil parish, 432; of the ecclesiastical, 310. There is a parish council consisting of seven members and a chairman. Studland Bay has a sheltered anchorage in 6 fathoms in W winds. There are brick and pottery works. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury; gross value, £120 with residence. The church is Norman, and was thoroughly restored in 1883.
