Armadale, Linlithgowshire
Historical Description
ARMADALE, a village, in the parish of BATHGATE, county of LINLITHGOW, 2 miles (W.) from Bathgate; containing 121 inhabitants. It derives its name from an estate in the vicinity, which once belonged to a senator in the college of justice whose title was Lord Armadale, being taken from the estate. The road from Linlithgow to Whitburn runs through the village, and it is also situated on one of the great roads between Edinburgh and Glasgow, from which cities it is nearly equidistant. The population is employed in agriculture, and in the mines and quarries of the neighbourhood.
