Owermoigne, Dorset
Historical Description
Owermoigne, a village and a parish in Dorsetshire. The village stands 2½ miles S by W of Moreton station on the L. & S.W.R., and 6 SE by E of Dorchester. It has a post office under Dorchester; money order office, Broadmayne; telegraph office, Winfrith. The parish contains also the hamlets of Galton and Southdown, and comprises 4046 acres; population of the civil parish, 386; of the ecclesiastical, 332. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. Much of the land is heath. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury; gross value, £300 with residence. The church, which is a small edifice in the Gothic style, was rebuilt in 1883.

St. Michael (parish church)
The parish church of St. Michael, rebuilt in 1883, at the expense of the late Rev. John Robert Cree, is an edifice of stone in the Gothic style, and consists of chancel, nave, south porch and an ancient embattled western tower, containing 3 bells: in the chancel is a stained window: there are 140 sittings.
