Sutcombe, Devon

Historical Description

Sutcombe, a parish, with a village, in Devonshire, 5 miles N by E of Holsworthy station on the L. & S.W.R. Post town, Holsworthy. Acreage, 2878; population of the civil parish, 351; of the ecclesiastical, 413. There is a parish council consisting of six members. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Exeter; net value, £223 with residence. The church is Early English, with a Norman doorway, and contains many memorials to the Prideaux family. There are Wesleyan and Bible Christian chapels and six almshouses.
