Woolley, West Riding of Yorkshire
Historical Description
Woolley, a village, a township, and an ecclesiastical parish, in Roystone parish, in the W.R. Yorkshire, 1½ mile ENE of Haigh railway station, and 5½ miles S by W of Wakefield. There is a post office under Wakefield; money order office, Bretton; telegraph office, Darton. Acreage, 2587; population, 969. Woolley Park is the seat of the Wentworth family, who are lords of the manor. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Wakefield; net value, £190 with residence. The church is Later English, was restored in 1870, and consists of chancel, nave, aisles, and tower. There are a Conservative club and an endowed school with £18 a year.
