Historical Description
Poppleton, Upper, a village and a township in the W.R. Yorkshire. The village stands 4 miles WNW of York, and a quarter of a mile from Poppleton station on the N.E.R. Post town, Poppleton, under York; money order and telegraph office, Acomb. Acreage of township, 1390; population, 302. There is a parish council consisting of five members. The manor belongs to the Montagu family. The living is a vicarage, annexed to the vicarage of Nether Poppleton, in the diocese of York. The church was erected in 1891 in the Early English style, and consists of chancel, nave, and turret. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
