Historical Description
Sutton, a township, with a village, in Kildwick parish, W.R. Yorkshire, 1 mile S of Kildwick station on the M.R., and 5 miles NW by W of Keighley. Post town, Keighley; money order office, Sntton Mill; telegraph office. Crossbills. Acreage, 2346; population of township, 1935; of ecclesiastical parish, 2756. There is a parish council consisting of five members. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ripon; net value, £270 with residence. Patron, Christ Church, Oxford. The church was built in 1869, is in the Decorated style, and consists of chancel, nave, and embattled western tower, and contains a fine reredos, erected in 1871, and a white marble pulpit and font, presented in 1880. There are cotton and worsted factories, a Baptist chapel, and rooms for Wesleyans and Free Methodists.
