South Crosland, West Riding of Yorkshire
Historical Description
Crosland, South, a village, a township, and an ecclesiastical parish in the W.R. Yorkshire. The village lies on the river Colne, 2 miles from Lockwood railway station, and 3½ SSW of Huddersfield. The township includes also the large village of Netherton, where there is a railway station. Acreage, 1810; population 3078. The parish is of less extent than the township, and was constituted in 1843. Population, 2523. There is a post, money order, and telegraph office at Netherton, under Huddersfield. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Wakefield; gross value, -£274 with residence. Patron, the Vicar of Almondbury. The church is modern, and there are Wesleyan and Congregational chapels and charities. There are large quarries, from which excellent building and flag stones are obtained.
