Scriven with Tentergate, West Riding of Yorkshire

Historical Description

Scriven-with-Tentergate, a township in Knaresborough parish, W.R. Yorkshire, on the river Nidd, 1 mile N by W of Knaresborough station on the N.E.R. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Knaresborough. Acreage, 1759; population, 615. The manor belonged anciently to the Scrivens, passed in the time of Henry III. to the Slingsbys, and belongs now to the Queen. Conyngarth Saxon camp and Gateshill Danish camp are near.
