Historical Description
Poole, a village and a township in Otley parish, W.R. Yorkshire. The village stands on the river Wharfe, adjacent to the Leeds, Otley, and Ilkley branch of the N.E.R. 3 miles E of Otley, and 199 from London, and has a station on the railway, and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Leeds. Acreage of township, 951; population, 554. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The manor belongs to the Pulleine family. Paper-making is carried on and there are stone quarries. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ripon; gross value, £110. Patron, the Vicar of Otley. The church is in the Early English style, was enlarged in 1891, and consists of chancel, nave, and tower with spire. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
