Stainley, North, a village, a township, and an ecclesiastical parish, in Ripon parish, W.R. Yorkshire. The township lies on the river Ure, 2 miles SE of West Tanfield station on the N.E.R., and 4 NNW of Ripon, and bears the name of North Stainley with Sleningford. Post town, Ripon; money order and telegraph office, Tanfield. Acreage, 4203 of land and 41 of water; population, 374. Ripon Episcopal Palace, North Stainley Hall, Old Sleningford Hall, Breckamoor, Sleningford Grange, and Sleningford Park are chief residences. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1844. Population, 411. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ripon; net value, £205 with residence. Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Ripon. The church was built in 1840 and restored in 1891. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
