Newall with Clifton, West Riding of Yorkshire

Historical Description

Newall-with-Clifton, a township in Otley parish, in the W.R. Yorkshire, on the river Wharfe, 1 mile N of Otley utation on the Otley and Ilkley Joint railway. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Otley. Acreage, 1531; population, 368. Newall Hall and Ashfield House are chief residences. Edward Fairfax, the translator of Tasso, was a native. The workhouse of the Wharfedale union is in this township. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
