Kirkby cum Milford, West Riding of Yorkshire
Historical Description
Kirkby-cum-Milford, a township and a parish in the W.R. Yorkshire. The township lies on the river Wharfe, near Ulleskelf railway station, 2 miles SSE of Tadcaster. Acreage, 1230; population, 125. The parish contains also the townships of Ulleskelf and Grimston, the former of which has a post office under Tadcaster; money order office, Tadcaster. Acreage, 3445; population, 676. Grimston Park, formerly the seat of Lord Londesborough, is now the property of the Fielden family. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of York; gross value, £300 with residence. The church is Early English, with a tower, was restored in 1861, and has two beautiful memorial windows and some fine old carved oak. There are a chapel of ease and a Wesleyan chapel at Ulleskelf.
