Historical Description
Illingworth, a village and an ecclesiastical parish in Halifax borough, in the W.R. Yorkshire. The village stands 2 miles NW of Halifax railway station, and has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Halifax, and several worsted mills. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1878, and includes the villages of Ovenden, Mixenden, Jumples, and Mount Tabor. Population, 5089. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Wakefield; net value, £335 with residence. Patron, the Vicar of Halifax. The church is a rectangular building with flat roof. It was thoroughly restored in 1889, when a chancel was opened, with organ chamber and morning chapel. There are Wesleyan and Congregational chapels.
