Little Horton Hall was, for several centuries, the residence of the distinguished family of Sharpe, belongs now to the Powell family, and is an ancient mansion, with massive central tower and two wings. The woollen and cotton manufactures are extensively carried on, and a cattle fair is held at Great Horton on 5 Sept. The Bradford Workhouse is here. The chapelries are Great Horton, Horton All Saints, and Horton St James. The livings are vicarages in the diocese of Manchester; net value of St John the Evangelist, Great Horton, £324 with residence; of All Saints, net £520 with residence; of St James, net £275 with residence. The present church at Great Horton was erected in 1874, and is a building in the Early English style, and consists of chancel, nave, aisles, and a tower. The church of All Saints was completed in 1864, and is noticed in our article BRADFORD. The population of the chapelries are respectively 11, 611, 12, 938, and 5723.
