Glass Houghton, West Riding of Yorkshire

Historical Description

Glass-Houghton, a township in Castleford parish, W.R. Yorkshire. It lies 2 miles from Pontefract and 1 mile .from Castleford station on the L. & Y.R.; also about 1½ from Castleford on the N.E.R. and G.N.R. It has a pos½ office under Castleford (S.O.); money order and telegraph office, Castleford. Area, 1079 acres; population, 1477. There is a colliery, and the township is noted for its sand and limestone. There are Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist chapels, also Church of England mission-room.
