Darnall, West Riding of Yorkshire

Historical Description

Darnall, a village and an ecclesiastical parish in Sheffield parish, in the W.R. Yorkshire, on the M.S. & L.R., 3 miles E of Sheffield. There is a station on the railway, and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Sheffield. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1839. Population, 8099. With Attercliffe it forms a township and joint parish. There are extensive railway waggon works and large collieries in the neighbourhood. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of York; net value, £300 with residence. The church is modern, and accommodates 1000 people. There are also five dissenting chapels, almshouses, and a cemetery.
