The Rye, North Riding of Yorkshire
Historical Description
Rye, The, a river of N.R. Yorkshire, rising on Wainstone Fell, among the Cleveland hills, and running about 35 miles south-eastward past Helmsley, Nunnington, and Butterwick, to the Derwent, 3½ miles NNE of New Malton. Its chief tributaries are the Riccal, the Dove, and the Severn.
