Penhill, North Riding of Yorkshire

Historical Description

Penhill, an eminence nearly 1800 feet high overhanging the lower part of Wensleydale, in the N.R. Yorkshire, 5½ miles SW by W of Leyburn. The top consists of gritstone, while the base and all the tract for miles around consists of limestone, and the hill commands an extensive view.
