Hudswell, North Riding of Yorkshire

Historical Description

Hudswell, a township-chapelry in Catterick and Easby parishes, N.R. Yorkshire, on the river Swale, 1½ mile WSW of Richmond railway station. It includes the hamlets of Thorpe-under-Stone and Brokes, and its post town and money order and telegraph office is Richmond, Yorkshire. Acreage, 3017; population, 223. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Ripon; net value, £122 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Ripon. The church is in the Early English style, and was erected in 1885 in place of an ancient one. There are a Wesleyan chapel, a school with a small endowment, and some charities.
