Helmsley-Gate or Gate Helmsley, a village, a township, and a parish in the N.R. Yorkshire, near the river Derwent, 6 miles ENE of York, and half a mile from Holtby station on the N.E.R. There is a post office under York; money order and telegraph office, Stamford Bridge. Acreage, 407; population, 194. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of York; gross value,, £88. Patron, the Archbishop of York. The church is very good, and was thoroughly restored in 1885. There is a Wesleyan chapel, rebuilt in 1864.
