Historical Description

Barn, The, a stream of Aysgarth parish, N.R. Yorkshire. It rises in Raydaleside, among high mountains, and runs 8 miles northward to the river Ure at Bainbridge. It expands into Semmer water 3 miles above Bainbridge, and makes two fine waterfalls. Semmer water is a lakelet of about 105 acres, a resort of water-fowl, and abounding with fish, and borrows picturesqueness from surrounding scenery.
