Historical Description
Hatfield, Great, a township in Mappleton and Sigglesthorne parishes, E.R. Yorkshire, 3¼ miles SSW of Hornsea, and 1 mile from Sigglesthome station on the N.E.R.. Post town, Hull; money order office, Hornsea; telegraph office, Burton Constable railway station. Acreage, 1488; population, 147. The manor belongs to the Bethell family, and the manor-house is occupied by a farmer. An ancient wayside cross is here, 9 feet high, of beautiful workmanship, with couching lions at the base. There is a small mission church, built in 1890 in the Early English style.
