Norrington, Wiltshire

Historical Description

Norrington, a mined mansion in the SW of Wiltshire, in the Vale of Chalk, 8½ miles E by N of Shaftesbury. It was the seat of the Gawens from 1377 to 1658, it passed then to the Wyndhams, and it is now represented by ruins of a hall, seemingly of The time of Richard II., and by remains of formal terraces and gardens.
