Ashcombe, Wiltshire

Historical Description

Ashcombe, an estate in Cranborne Chase, Wilts, 5 miles SE of Shaftesbury. It belonged formerly to Lord Arundell. It comprises a romantic circular hollow, engirt with an amphitheatre of wooded hills, accessible only by a declivitous road; and has, in the centre, an isolated knoll, crowned by remains of an old mansion.
