Blea Tarn (Little Langdale), Westmorland

Historical Description

Blea Tarn, a lakelet in Little Langdale, Westmoreland, in a deep, rocky hollow, at a high elevation, 05 miles W of Ambleside. Wordsworth made its basin the home of the Solitary in his " Excursion" and described it as " Beneath our feet a little lowly vale,- A lowly vale, and yet uplifted high Among the mountains; even as if the spot Had been, from eldest time, by wish of theirs, So placed to be shut out from all the world."
