Shottery, Warwickshire

Historical Description

Shottery, a village in Old Stratford parish, Warwickshire, 1 mile W of Stratford-on-Avon. It has a post and telegraph office under Stratford-on-Avon; money order office, Stratford-on-Avon. The cottage in which Anne Hathaway lived before her marriage with Shakespeare is here, and contains a curious bedstead and some other relics. The cottage was purchased in 1892 by the Shakespeare trustees for £3000. The living is a chapelry, annexed to the vicarage of Stratford-on-Avon. The church was built in 1870. There is a Congregational chapel.
