Ragley Hall, Warwickshire

Historical Description

Ragley Hall, the seat of the Marquis of Hertford, in Arrow parish, Warwickshire, near the river Arrow, 1 mile SW of Alcester. It was built about 1750 by Lord Conway, was altered by Wyatt, and is in the Italian style. It occupies comparatively high ground; has four fronts, three storeys high, of great architectural beauty; includes a hall 80 feet long, 40 wide, and 45 high; contains a library of nearly 30,000 volumes, and a fine collection of paintings by eminent masters; and stands in a richly-wooded park of 700 acres, containing a large lake and about 200 head of deer.
