Fletchamstead, Warwickshire
Historical Description
Fletchamstead, a village in Westwood ecclesiastical parish and Stoneleigh civil parish, Warwickshire, 2 miles SW of Coventry. Over Fletchamstead was given as a manor by Henry VIII. to John Beaumont; passed to the Humberstons and the Leighs, and had a fine Gothic mansion erected on it by Sir Thomas Leigh, which gave shelter for a short time to Charles L, and the remains of which were afterwards converted into a farmhouse. Lower Fletchamstead belonged, in the time of Henry VII., to John Smith, one of the commissioners for levying men against the threatened invasion by France, and was partly converted by his son into a park.
