Historical Description

Dicker, Upper, a village in Arlington parish, and a chapelry in Arlington, Chiddingly, and Helliugly parishes, Sussex. The village stands near the river Cuckmere, 3 miles NNE of Berwick station on the L.B. & S.C.R., and 4 W by N of Hailsham. Post town, Hawkhurst. Population of ecclesiastical district, 472. The chapelry bears the name of Upper Dicker Common, and was constituted in 1845. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Ghichester; value, £300 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Chichester. The church is a building in the Gothic style. Some pottery business is carried on.
