Forest Row, Sussex
Historical Description
Forest Row, an ecclesiastical district in the parish of East Grinstead, lying on the N side of Ashdown Forest. Population, 2200. There is a station on the L.B. & S.C.R., 34 miles from London, and three post offices, with money order and telegraph offices. The church was built in 1837, and there is also a mission church, and Congregational and Baptist chapels. The vicarage, worth £175 with residence, is in the gift of the Vicar of East Grinstead. The scenery is most lovely, and there are several fine residences in the neighbourhood. Ashdown Forest is a favourite resort of travellers and tourists. There is a golf club with about 400 members.
