Historical Description
Chiltington, a manor in West Chiltington parish, Sussex. Chiltington, East, a township in Westmeston parish, Sussex, on a branch of the river Ouse, 2 miles from Plumpton station on the L.B. & S.C.R. Post town, Lewes; money order and telegraph office, Plumpton. Acreage, 1671; population, 436. The living is a chapelry, annexed to the rectory of Westmeston, in the diocese of Chichester. The church is plain, and was restored in 1889. Chailey Workhouse, erected in 1873, is situated in this parish.
