Dieulacres, Staffordshire

Historical Description

Dieulacres, a hamlet in Leek parish, Staffordshire, half a mile N of Leek. A Cistercian abbey was founded here in 1214 by Blundeville, Earl of Chester, and given by Edward-VI. to Sir Ralph Bagenall. The edifice is known to have been large and beautiful, but very few traces of it exist.
