Quantock Hills, Somerset

Historical Description

Quantock Hills, a range of heathy hills in Somerset, extending about 8 miles north-north-westward, from the NE vicinity of Bishop Lydeard, to the coast in the E vicinity of Watchet It consists mainly of Silurian and Devonian rocks, has a general elevation of from 1000 to 1100 feet, culminates in Wills Neck at an altitude of 1270 feet, is steep on one side but gradually declivitous on the other, and terminates on the gentler side in winding and romantic vales.
