Knowbury, Shropshire
Historical Description
Knowbury, a village in Cainham parish, and an ecclesiastical parish partly also in Bitterley parish, Salop. The village stands 5 miles E of Ludlow, and has a post office under Ludlow; money order office, Clee Hill; telegraph office, Ludlow. There are large stone quarries and brick and tile works. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1840; population, 935. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Hereford; gross value,, £194 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Worcester. The church is modern. There are Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist chapels. By the Parish Councils Act Knowbury forms one of the wards of the civil parish of Cainham.
