Rycote, Oxfordshire

Historical Description

Rycote, a liberty in Great Haseley parish, Oxfordshire, 4 miles SW of Thame, and 1½ mile SE from Tiddington station on the Wycombe, Thame, and Oxford branch of the G.W.R. The property belonged to the Ricotes, passed to the Quatremains, the Herons, the Williamses, and the Norrises, and gives the title of Baron to the Earl of Abingdon, who is lord of the manor and sole landowner. Queen Elizabeth was twice at Rycote Park, first as a prisoner, next in 1592.
