Historical Description
Shottle and Postern, a township in Duffield parish, Derbyshire, 5 miles S by E of Wirksworth, and 3 from Belper. It has a station on the Wirksworth branch of the M.R., a chapel of ease, and an endowed school. There is a post office at Cowerslane; money order office, Idridgehay; telegraph office, at the railway station. Acreage, including Cowerslane, 3808; population, 432. There is a parish council of six membery. The Duke of Devonshire is lord of the manor.
