It was authorised in 1847 under another name; but, by resolution of general meetings, it became limited to a length of 23 miles from Colwick to Grantham; and in 1860 its name was changed to the Nottingham and Grantham, and its capital was reduced to £1,014,000 in shares and £265,000 in loans. It was afterwards leased to the Great Northern for 999 years, at a rental of £4, 2s. 6d. on the share capital.
