Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire
Historical Description
Clumber Park, the seat of the Duke of Newcastle, 3 miles SE of Worksop, in Notts. The house has a dining room which will accommodate 150 guests, 60 feet long, 34 wide, and 30 high, and contains many rich works of art; and the park has a beautiful lake, 3 miles long, 200 acres in extent, and about 11 miles in circuit. The mansion fronts the lake. In 1879 nearly all the rooms of the older house were destroyed by fire, and were replaced by a fine central hall in Classic style by Charles Barry, F S.A. There is a good library, and a church with beautifully decorated interior has been erected by the present Duke. There are large conservatories and a stud farm.
