St Nicholas Gat, Norfolk
Historical Description
Nicholas Gat, St, the old channel to Yarmouth Roads, in Norfolk. It lay between the Scroby Sands and the St Nicholas Sands; was from half a mile to three-fourths of a mile wide, and had a depth of from 6 to 10 fathoms, but became silted up till it had a depth of only a few feet. A lighthouse with a fixed light was on it, but this was removed to the channel called Hewit's Channel, farther N.
