Little Ouse, Norfolk
Historical Description
Ouse, Little, an ecclesiastical parish on the Little Ouse river, in the S border of Norfolk, 4A miles NNE from Littleport station on The Ely and Lynn section of the G.E.R., and 10½ SE from Downham. It was formed in 1866 out of the civil parishes of Hilgay, Feltwell, St Mary and St Nicholas, Littleport (Cambridge), and the parishes of Feltwell Anchor and Redmore, which formerly were extra-parochial tracts. Post town, Downham; money order and telegraph office, Southery. Population, 924. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ely; net value, £229 with residence, in the gift of the Bishop of Ely. The church is a modern building of flint and stone in the Early English style. There are two Primitive Methodist chapels. Feltwell Anchor, formerly extra-parochial, is now a parish included for ecclesiastical purposes in the parish of Little Ouse.
