Piercefield, Monmouthshire

Historical Description

Piercefield, a seat in St Aryans parish, on the SE border of Monmouthshire, on the river Wye, 1½ mile N of Chepstow. It has been a country seat for over 400 years, but the mansion was rebuilt about the middle of the 18th century, and the grounds laid out in the old-fashioned style of landscape gardening, with grottoes and temples. The park extends over 400 acres, and commands magnificent views of the valley of the Wye. Piercefield is now the property of the Clay family.
