Pencoed Castle, Monmouthshire

Historical Description

Pencoed Castle, a seat in the S of Monmouthshire, on an eminence, with charming views, 7 miles E of Newport. It was built in the time of Henry VIII. from materials of an ancient castle of the Moors, and it long was held by the Morgans of Tredegar. A gateway of the castle, with circular arch-work, still stands.
