Herne Hill, Middlesex
Historical Description
Herne Hill, an ecclesiastical parish, formed out of Camberwell and Lambeth parishes in 1845. It is in the Herne Hill Postal District, S.E. Population, 5255. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Rochester; gross value, £500 mainly from pew Kents, with residence. The church is situated in Camberwell parish, and is dedicated to St Paul. This suburb lies 4 miles S of St Paul's, London, and has a station of the same name on the main line of the L.C. & D.R. Many of the older houses with their extensive gardens have been removed, and the population is rapidly increasing.
