Historical Description
Staunton Harrold, a village and a township in Breedon-on-the Hill parish, Leicestershire, 3½ miles NNE of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and 2 W from Worthington station on the Derby and Ashby-de-la-Zouch branch of the M.R. Acreage, 1699; population, 227. The manor, with all the land, belongs to Earl Ferrers. Staunton Harrold Hall, a seat of Earl Ferrers, is a fine building of red brick, surrounded by a pleasant park of about 140 acres. Limestone, ironstone, coal, and lead ore are found here, and there are pottery works.
