Tovil, Kent
Historical Description
Tovil, a hamlet in Maidstone parish, and a chapelry partly also in Loose and East Farleigh parishes, Kent. The hamlet lies on the river Medway, with a station on the S.E.R., 43 miles from London, and has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Maidstone, a large oil-cake mill, and several paper mills. Population of the ecclesiastical district, 1055. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Canterbury; net value, £300 with residence. The church is a small stone building in the Early English style.
