The Swale, Kent
Historical Description
Swale, The, a maritime branch of the river Medway in Kent, separating the Isle of Sheppey from the mainland, and sending off a branch of 2 miles to Milton. It describes nearly the segment of a circle from Queenborough to Whitstable, is 16 miles long and from a half to 1½ mile broad, and has a depth of from 3 to 5 fathoms.
