Rosherville, Kent
Historical Description
Rosherville, a chapelry in Northfleet parish, Kent, adjacent to Gravesend, with stations on the L.C. & D.R. and S.E.R., 27 miles from London. It includes the hamlet of Lower Perry Street, was constituted in 1853, and belongs to the Rosher family-hence the name. Post town, Gravesend. Population, 1721. Numerous good residences stand on a considerable eminence overlooking chalk cliffs, the river Thames, and the low lands of Essex. Rosherville Gardens, formed out of an old chalk pit, occupy about 20 acres, and are laid. out in gardens, terraces, and promenades. There are numerous attractions, including a small theatre, a large hall, dancing platform, conservatory, .and maze. The Victoria Company's steamers call at Rosherville pier from London. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Rochester; gross value, £300 with residence. The church is a handsome modern edifice in the Transition style, and is noted for the beauty of the stone carving with which it is adorned.
